Discovering Your True Nature: A Journey of Surrender

There is something within us that wants to know what we truly are. Sometimes it begins as a quiet feeling: there must be more. We may not know what that means, but the longing is there.

For me, this inner knowing was present long before I could describe it. And as my journey unfolded, it led me into what I call our True Nature—the Absolute, or Brahman.

When I use these words, I am pointing towards the same thing. I like the expression “True Nature” because it feels free. It does not require us to follow a particular spiritual tradition or fit our experience into an existing framework. It simply points towards what we are at the deepest level.

In the way I experience it, the soul, the higher self, and the physical and nonphysical realms are all within creation. Brahman is beyond creation. Yet this does not mean we must travel somewhere far away to discover it. What appears to be out there is also within us. We are opening into another depth of our own nature.

Your Journey Will Unfold in Your Own Way

Before this shift happened for me, I was experiencing unity consciousness. I knew two people who had already moved into Brahman, and their descriptions were very different.

One felt that the emptiness was difficult and encouraged me to remain in unity consciousness. The other spoke positively about the experience, especially the possibilities of working with energies.

This showed me something I often share: everyone's journey is different. Another person's experience can point us in a direction, but it cannot tell us exactly how our own experience will unfold.

I felt the aspiration to explore this for myself. So I chose to approach it with openness and curiosity.

We can listen to teachings and read descriptions, but the mind will naturally build ideas around them. I did this too. When the experience actually came, it was different from what I had imagined. Only then did I understand what those descriptions had been pointing towards.

Allow yourself to remain open. You do not need to know in advance what your journey will look like.

The Willingness to Surrender

For me, this unfolding involved dedication. I meditated deeply and regularly, and for about a year this was an important focus in my life.

As I returned again and again to deep meditation, something changed. Each time, it felt as though I brought something back with me. There was a little more detachment, a different quality to my experience, although it was difficult to put into words.

Then, during a retreat, I had a profound experience while meditating with devotional music for the Divine Mother. Suddenly, it felt as though I was her. There was immense expansion and feminine power. I felt like the whole universe, while still sitting in the body and perceiving through it.

Something in me recognized this experience. I wanted to know how it could become continuous.

What followed was very personal to my system. I was shown what I had learned to call human love and felt guided to surrender it. This is not something I have heard from everyone who has had this shift, so I would not turn my experience into a rule for anyone else.

What mattered was my willingness. Whatever I was shown, I was ready to give it away.

Eventually, the characteristic emptiness of Brahman was simply there. It was an unmistakable change in how I experienced reality.

Daily Life Continues

One question people often ask is whether such a shift makes it impossible to continue living an ordinary life.

In my experience, daily life continued. I went to work, spent time with my partner and friends, went running, and took a weekend away. I still did the things I had done before.

What changed was my perception of them.

I remained in that experience for about three months before the possibility of returning to a more human experience arose. Human love was the one thing I had missed. The journey continued, and new layers still surfaced to be cleared.

Today, knowing my true nature feels completely normal. It is not something I need to think about constantly. It is simply present. I experience that same true nature in everything and everyone.

Family, wellbeing, and the practical aspects of life still matter. Becoming a mother brought my attention very strongly into the human experience. That, too, became part of the unfolding.

You Are Still the Room

Realizing your true nature does not mean that nothing will ever surface on the human level again.

I sometimes describe it as a room with a mosquito in it. Something arises—a reaction, a pattern, another layer asking to be cleared—but you are still the room. The mosquito does not change what you are.

This knowing is what I value so deeply. Human experiences can come and go, while the recognition of your true nature remains.

And there is still more to discover. We may recognize certain stepping stones along the way, but we do not need to make every one into a destination. The aspiration for truth can guide us as the journey continues.

Allow Life to Guide You

The invitation I keep returning to is surrender: allowing life to move us, while releasing what holds us back from its flow.

In my work, I experience the energies as supporting this clearing and opening. Deep meditation can become more accessible as resistance softens. We do not need to force a particular experience or make our journey resemble somebody else's.

If realizing your true nature is something you feel drawn towards, honor that aspiration. Meditate, remain open, and allow your own experience to reveal itself.

And write down what you notice. Even profound changes can become so natural that we soon forget how things felt before.

You do not need to understand the whole journey today. Be willing to explore, to surrender, and to discover for yourself what you truly are.

Love, Eva ❤️
